Why You Need a Wellness Retreat Now

Summer is in full swing, and it has been incredible… I’m vaxed, waxed and ready to hang out with all my long-lost friends and family. Weekends and weeknights are spent sipping rose on patios and heading to cabins on the lake.

Going from 0 to 60

I recently looked at my calendar for the rest of the summer and came to the realization that I have ONE weekend free until Fall. While I am incredibly grateful that life is getting back to “normal” I’m also starting to feel V overwhelmed. Know the feeling? Saying no to the fun, because I genuinely want to experience life as I used to know it.

I don’t have a crystal ball, but I do know myself well. When September rolls around, schools are back in sesh and patio days slow down I’m going to hit a wall. That’s exactly why, I have chosen to plan a couple of fabulous wellness getaways not only for my clients, friends, and fam - but also for MYSELF.

Palmaïa – The House of AïA - Where we’ll escape

Last year, I had the opportunity to explore some new fabulous resorts, and Palmaïa – The House of AïA happened to be one of them. I had just left a small group trip, where we may have consumed a little too much tequila and had not nearly enough sleep.

Sustainable hotels make the world go ‘round

I booked a room a Palmaia for a couple of days solo to scope it out and relax before heading home. Solo getaways can get lonely, so I was not looking forward to that part. I fell in love with the resort the moment I stepped into Boho-minimalist lobby. The hotel staff were chill and kind, and they also looked chic and relaxed in their hareem linen pants. Upon check in, I was gifted a reusable water bottle, which I absolutely loved. Hydrating is obviously necessary in the heat, but I always feel terrible crushing 8 plastic water bottles a day at resorts. This is a NO PLASTIC resort.

Bali in Mexico

I was guided to my room via golf cart and along the way I admired the lush surroundings. The grounds are natural and wild – which is a fun change from perfectly manicured grounds of some other resorts in the area. The rooms are simple but beautiful and spacious. The views are to die for from the Oceanfront balconies. The water is that turquoise blue that we all dream of come in the sand is beautifully white and the Beach bar decor in front of the rooms makes you feel a little bit like you’re in Bali.

 Solo is okay!

I spent two days solo here and felt completely at peace. The morning after check-in, I joined a couple of wellness classes, including yoga and a sound bath meditation. This was a great opportunity to meet others at the resort – I never once felt alone here, which was amazing.

The incredible food…

I couldn’t get enough of the wonderful vegetarian and vegan food at Palmaia. No joke - they have more vegan offerings than any restaurant I’ve been to. Not only are the options plentiful, but they’re creative and visually beautiful. Learn more about the resorts cuisine here.

Carrot smoked “salmon” toast. This can also be ordered w/actual salmon.

What I love about this hotel is that it’s all about choice – the vegan burger I ordered could have been beef, the cheese could be vegan – or not, all condiments could be ordered vegan as well as the bun. Of course, I had to order fries with my vegan burger, because I was still indulging after all! Their menus have so many fantastic options – from color salads to fresh fish, buddha bowls, pastas and delectable vegan desserts.

Palmaia is an all-inclusive resort, you have the option of sipping cocktails and wine, ordering dinner AND dessert and you’ll never see a bill. Green juice, mock tails, teas and elixirs are plentiful if you want skip the booze!

In the evening, I listened to DJ sets, sat around the fire and watched people dance. Normally, I’m in the center of the dance floor, but I was simply content. I took bubble bath, went to bed early and got up early to walk along the gorgeous stretch of sand.
