Atelier Playa Mujeres, Mexico: The Skinny on a new All-Inclusive

Atelier, Playa Mujeres is a 5*, adults-only property, located in Playa, Mujeres, Mexico. If you’ve never been to this area before, it’s about 25 minutes north of the Cancun strip and about 30 minutes from the airport. This is an upscale all-inclusive hotel that opened in 2019, and it’s easily one of my favorite properties in the region.

THE SKINNY ON

Atelier

I’d give this property 4.8/5. I truly can’t think of many faults for this stunning new hotel. The property is inspired by the art and design of Contemporary Mexico. It’s understated, in the best kind of way. The highlight of this hotel IMO – is the rooftop pool, which provides the best sunset views on property. Staff is attentive, drinks are on point, food was delish, the spa is to die for, and rooms are comfortable, yet luxurious.

THE ROOMS

5/5 Soft, neutral design with pops of color in the Mexican art on display. I felt the rooms were the perfect size, with plenty of storage, a small seating area, cloud-like beds and a spa-like bathrooms. The tub was stunning – and Molten Brown bath products truly made me feel like I was at a luxe spa. Rainfall shower, private restroom, and pocket doors that close close off the whole area, for total privacy. All rooms have balconies – overlooking the golf course, property and ocean.

Top Room Picks:

Inspira Suites: with these rooms, you’ll have all-day access to the rooftop pool and bar. Here, you’ll be treated to a special lunch menu and passed snacks like prosciutto-wrapped melon. You’ll also get access to Maria Dolores (a specialty restaurant with uber fancy dishes – you’ll totally forget you’re at all-inclusive). These rooms also include Concierge services, 2 rounds of golf, access to a nearby waterpark, private check-in, and a special lounge with top-tier cocktails.

The Rooftop Suites (Inspira and regular) have a 2nd level with private plunge pools. Romantic, much? If you’re going to spring – I’d choose this room category all day long. Inspira would be an added perk, but this category is on point.

THE FOOD

Definitely a highlight! I started my stay here with lunch at El Suspiro, which is a poolside seafood joint. I, personally, can’t stand buffets and don’t really love ordering greasy food from my beach chair, so this was perfect in my mind. Easy to access, with high-quality dishes (and wonderful Mezcal Margs). My favorite lunch dishes here: a Mediterranean salad with grilled shrimp and fish tacos.

Breakfast was a buffet (but room service is always an option): I’m totally fine with a breakfast buffet and the spread here was great. All of the usual stations (omelets, chilaquiles’, quesadillas, eggs your way) + all the sides your heart could desire. Don’t forget to order a bloody or mimosa!

DINNER OPTIONS

Plentiful! Upscale Italian, Asian, Brazilian Steakhouse, Mexican, Seafood, and Maria Dolores (extra cost if you’re not in Inspira Suites). No complaints – everything was fresh and definitely high end for all-inclusive.

ACTIVITIES

Low-key during the day (floating yoga, water Zumba, volleyball, music by the pool). It’s unlikely you’ll find foam parties here. Personally, I love low-key entertainment. I don’t need someone trying to get me to join tug of war. At night, there’s Karaoke + Cabaret, Bohemian Night’s like shows. Everyone was super engaged during the show, which I think is rare. Karaoke was a hoot.

THE LOCATION

A bit secluded, but close to Isla Mujeres (just a 10-min boat ride). A day-trip to Isla Mujeres is a must when staying here. $50 gets you there and back – you’ll get picked up directly in front of the hotel, which is awesome. Rent a golf cart and explore the whole island. You’ll see ruins, be able to scope out great shops, grab seafood on the beach and snorkel. 100% must do. The beach is huge in front of the hotel and you can walk for at least an hour in each direction. The water is generally calm, because Isla Mujeres blocks wind!

THE SPA

OMG. It was wonderful. My mother in-law gifted me a massage for my birthday, which fell over my trip and I am so thankful! I arrived about an hour early to enjoy the hydrotherapy and I am so glad I did! The staff led me through an experience I won’t soon forget. My senses were ignited as we went from hot to cold – steam, jetted tubs, ice rooms, you name it! I instantly felt healthy and energized. After my hydrotherapy, I got the most amazing 80-minute massage ever. I tried so hard to stay awake, but found myself in a state of dreamy bliss. Highly recommend!!

OTHER TID-BITS:

  • It’s pet-friendly! Maybe you’re not ready to bring your pup, but you might see a few little cuties running around!

  • The rooftop pool opens daily from 6 pm on to non-Inspira guests.

  • Spa here is a MUST. Make sure you arrive early for the hydrotherapy treatments

BEST FOR:

  • Couples, looking for great food, romance, low-key entertainment.

  • Golf lovers and Foodies

  • Friends looking for an easy getaway

  • Destination Weddings: this would be an absolutely perfect spot to tie the knot! They have a family-friendly sister property (Estudio Playa Mujeres) next door, so don’t worry, your nieces and nephews can join!

SIMILAR PROPERTIES

  • Unico 2087 – similar design, vibe, entertainment and food (another one of my faves)!
